Restore your beautiful and functional smile with a dental bridge. Whether you’ve lost a tooth due to an accident, trauma or extraction, bridges offer a reliable and natural-looking solution to fill the gaps in your smile. Our bridges are meticulously made from high-quality materials, ensuring a natural-looking and long-lasting result. The bridge is anchored to the abutment teeth on either side, providing a stable and functional replacement for your missing tooth.

Why choose a dental bridge?
Improve your appearance. Bridges support your facial structure, and match the colour and shape of your natural teeth for a beautiful smile.
Protect remaining teeth. By filling the gap left by missing teeth, bridges prevent excessive wear and tear on existing neighbouring teeth.
Enhance function. Comfortably eat and chew a wide variety of food, keep your teeth in alignment, and speak confidently and clearly.
Secure and durable fit. As they are fixed in place, bridges are a more secure alternative to partial dentures.
With a conventional bridge, usually the teeth on either side of the gap are prepared, crowns are placed over the prepared teeth and these are attached to the artificial tooth (also called a pontic).
Adhesive (Maryland) bridges
Adhesive bridges require virtually no drilling of the teeth on either side of the gap to be filled. They can be made with metal or ceramic wings (brackets), glued to hold the false tooth securely in place.
What does the treatment involve?
At Dream Smiles Dental, we prioritise high-quality treatment and excellent communication to help you achieve the best results. Initially, we examine your teeth, making sure the teeth that will support your bridge are healthy and strong. We take the time to explain the procedure in detail and answer any questions.
We prepare the teeth next to the gap, known as abutment teeth, by removing a layer of enamel to accommodate the bridge. We use local anaesthetic to numb the affected area in your mouth.
We take impressions of the prepared teeth, which are sent to the dental laboratory to create your bridge. While your bridge is being custom-made, we provide you with a temporary bridge to protect the exposed teeth.
When ready, we check your bridge, making sure it fits perfectly and making small adjustments if necessary. Your bridge is finally fixed in place with strong dental cement.
Frequently asked questions
You need to clean your bridge every day, to prevent problems such as bad breath and gum disease. You also have to clean under the false tooth every day. Your dentist or hygienist will show you how to use special floss, as a normal toothbrush cannot reach.
The process typically involves several appointments. The first visit is for consultation and preparation, followed by creating the bridge and then cementing it in place.
The procedure itself requires local anaesthesia, so you shouldn’t feel pain during treatment. Some temporary discomfort may be experienced afterwards.
If bridges are well looked after, and that includes keeping the surrounding teeth healthy so they can continue to provide a solid foundation, they should last for many years.
The main alternatives to bridges for replacing missing teeth are partial dentures and dental implants. Bridges are seen as a more secure alternative to partial dentures, as they are fixed into place and will not move or slip. Implants are seen as superior in durability and aesthetics but are more expensive. Bridges can be used in combination with implants to replace more than one missing tooth.
It is important to replace missing teeth in your smile, not just because it can really affect confidence. Replacing teeth prevents the remaining teeth from shifting out of position, causing alignment issues. It also protects the otherwise vulnerable gums.
