Sedation

Why choose to have sedation?

  • Completely safe. Sedation makes you feel completely relaxed and anxiety-free, able to undergo your dental treatment.
  • Fast-acting. The calming effects of sedation take hold rapidly, ensuring a comfortable and stress-free experience.
  • Tailored to you. The levels of sedation are completely tailored to suit your needs, and monitored closely throughout.
  • Remain awake. Sedation allows you to remain conscious and able to communicate, but can help you forget the treatment process.

What is sedation?

If a fear of visiting the dentist has prevented you from accessing the treatment you need, intravenous sedation offers a safe and effective solution. It can make you feel completely relaxed and much more willing to undergo treatment. While you’ll remain conscious and able to communicate with your dentist, your worries will fade away. IV sedation can make it easier to access essential dental treatments, helping you achieve the healthy smile you deserve.

What does dental sedation involve?

If you are interested in having sedation, or we have suggested you may benefit from the treatment, we discuss the procedure with you in as much or as little detail as you are comfortable with. We carefully assess your general health, including your blood pressure and oxygen levels.

The level of sedation is tailored to your individual requirements and administered via a soft plastic tube inserted into a vein in the back of your hand. It doesn’t take long to take effect and we monitor you closely throughout your treatment. Once you are suitably relaxed, we administer any other necessary medication, including local anaesthetic for pain relief.

The effects of sedation will take a while to wear off, so you will need someone to take you home and keep an eye on you after your treatment.
