Having facial aesthetics with a dentist means being treated by a regulated healthcare professional who is trained in the anatomy of the face and mouth, gives injections every working day, and answers to the General Dental Council. At Dream Smiles Dental in Bolton, every facial aesthetics patient is assessed and treated by Dr Brekhna, one of our dentists.

Who is allowed to give facial injections in England?
At the time of writing, there is still no licensing scheme in force for non-surgical cosmetic treatments in England. The Health and Care Act 2022 gave the government the power to create one, and plans have been announced, but in practice almost anyone can offer dermal filler today, with very different levels of training.
A few rules do exist. It is illegal to give dermal filler for cosmetic reasons to anyone under 18 in England. Some facial treatments use prescription medicines, which means a qualified prescriber must assess you in person before they can be used. Beyond that, it is largely up to you to check who you are trusting with your face.
Five reasons a dentist is a good choice
1. Dentists study the face in detail
Dental training covers the muscles, nerves and blood vessels of the head and neck in depth. Knowing what sits beneath the skin is what allows a clinician to place filler safely and predictably.
2. Injecting is part of the day job
Dentists give injections around the mouth every day. Steady hands, accurate placement and putting nervous patients at ease are skills built over years, not a weekend course.
3. Your smile is part of the plan
Your lips, teeth and gums work together. A dentist can see how your lip support relates to your teeth and how your smile changes the lower face, which matters for lip filler and for treating smile lines and marionette lines.
4. A clinical setting with proper protocols
Treatment takes place in a registered dental practice, in a clinical room built for infection control, with a team trained to respond if something unexpected happens. Complications from filler are uncommon, but when they happen, speed and preparation matter.
5. Real accountability
Dentists must be registered with the General Dental Council, keep their training up to date and hold indemnity cover. You can check any dentist’s registration on the GDC register, and there is a formal route to raise concerns if you ever need it.
Questions to ask before any facial aesthetics treatment
- Are you a registered healthcare professional, and with which regulator?
- Will I have a face to face consultation before anything is agreed?
- Who prescribes, if my treatment needs a prescription medicine?
- What product are you using, and why?
- What happens if I have a problem afterwards, and who do I call?
- Will you tell me if you think I do not need treatment?
A good clinician will welcome every one of these questions.
How we do it at Dream Smiles Dental
Dr Brekhna assesses every patient herself. She marks up the face before anything is done, explains what she is doing and why, and will tell you honestly if she thinks treatment is not right for you or will not give the result you want. You leave your consultation with a written plan and the exact cost, with no pressure to book on the day.
The consultation is free. A £40 deposit secures your appointment, and it is fully refundable or redeemable towards your treatment. Afterwards you get written aftercare, a number to call if you are worried, and a review.
Our practice was named UK overall private practice of the year at the Private Dentistry Awards 2025. You can meet the wider team on our team page.
