What is lip filler?

Lip filler is a soft gel made from hyaluronic acid, a substance your body already produces to keep skin hydrated. Placed carefully into the lips, it can add volume, define the border of the lip, balance one side with the other and smooth fine lines around the mouth.

It is not only about making lips bigger. Many of the people we see want lips that look a little fuller, more even or more hydrated, and nothing that would make a stranger look twice. That kind of result is planned, not guessed. You can read more about how we approach it on our facial aesthetics page.

How much does lip filler cost in Bolton?

  • Lip filler 0.5ml: £180
  • Lip filler 1ml: £250
  • Consultation: free. A £40 deposit secures your appointment and is fully refundable, or redeemable towards your treatment

If it is your first time, a smaller amount is often a sensible place to start. You can always build gradually at a later appointment, but you cannot take a result back once it looks too much.

You will find cheaper lip filler in and around Bolton. When you compare prices, ask what is included: who is treating you, what product they use, whether you have a proper assessment first, and who you can call if you are worried afterwards. Those things matter far more than £20 either way.

What happens at your appointment

Every treatment starts with a face to face consultation with your clinician, Dr Brekhna. She will ask about your medical history, listen to what you would like to change, and look at how your lips sit with your teeth, smile and the rest of your face. You leave with a written plan and the exact cost before anything is done, and there is no obligation to go ahead on the day.

If you do go ahead, the area is cleaned and numbed first. Most lip fillers also contain a local anaesthetic, so the treatment is usually more comfortable than people expect. The filler is placed in small amounts, with your clinician checking shape and symmetry as she goes.

What to expect afterwards

Your lips will feel swollen and may look a little uneven for the first day or two. That is normal, and it usually peaks the morning after treatment. Small bruises can appear and fade over a week or so. Your settled result shows at around two weeks.

  • Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, saunas and hot baths for 24 hours.
  • Try not to press, massage or kiss heavily on the area for the first day.
  • Keep lip products and make up off the area until the next day.
  • Call us straight away if you notice increasing pain, or skin that turns pale, blue or blotchy.

You will be given written aftercare instructions and a number to call, and we will invite you back to review your result.

How long does lip filler last?

Most people find their lip filler lasts six to twelve months. Lips move constantly when you talk and eat, so filler there tends to break down faster than in other areas. How long yours lasts also depends on the product, the amount used and your own metabolism. Some people choose to top up once or twice a year; others let it fade naturally.

Is lip filler right for you?

Lip filler suits most healthy adults who want a subtle, natural improvement. It is not suitable if you are under 18, which is the law in England, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Let us know if you have an active cold sore, take blood thinning medication or have any medical conditions, as these can affect your treatment.

We will also be honest if what you are asking for would not suit your face, or would not give you the result you are hoping for. Being told to wait or to do less is a good sign, not a bad one.

Frequently asked questions

Does lip filler hurt?

Most people describe it as uncomfortable rather than painful. Numbing before treatment and the anaesthetic within the filler keep it manageable, and the treatment itself is quick.

Will it look natural?

It should. The aim is that people notice you look well, not that you have had something done. If you ask for something we think will look overdone, we will say so.

Can I have lip filler before an event?

Yes, but book at least two weeks ahead. That gives swelling and any bruising time to settle and leaves room for a review.

What if I do not like the result?

Come back and tell us. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved if needed, and a review is part of how we work.
