If lines on your forehead, between your brows or around your eyes are bothering you, the right first step is a face to face consultation, not a treatment menu. At Dream Smiles Dental in Bolton, a consultation for lines and wrinkles is free, is with a clinician, and ends with a written plan you are under no pressure to follow. Here is exactly what happens.

Why the consultation matters

Lines form for different reasons. Some appear only when you move your face, such as frowning or smiling. Others are etched into the skin even at rest. Some are mostly about skin quality, hydration and sun damage. Treating them well starts with working out which is which, and that can only be done in person.

Some treatments for lines and wrinkles also use prescription medicines. That means a qualified prescriber has to see you, take a full medical history and decide whether treatment is appropriate. It is not a step that can be skipped or done over a message, and you should be wary of anyone who offers to.

What happens at your consultation

1. A conversation about you

Dr Brekhna will ask what bothers you, when you notice it, and what you would like to look like afterwards. She will also go through your medical history, any medication and any previous treatments.

2. An assessment of your face

She will look at your face at rest and while you make different expressions, and at the quality of your skin. This shows which lines are caused by movement, which are there all the time, and how your features work together.

3. An honest view of your options

Depending on what she finds, options might include skincare and sun protection advice, a skin booster such as Profhilo, dermal filler for deeper lines that are there at rest, or a prescription treatment if she judges it appropriate. Sometimes the right answer is to do nothing yet, and she will tell you if that is the case.

4. A written plan with the exact cost

You leave with a clear, written plan and the exact cost before anything is done. There is no obligation to go ahead, and no pressure to decide on the day.

Can I have treatment on the same day?

Sometimes, but never as a promise. It depends on what you need, whether a prescription is involved and whether your clinician is satisfied that treatment is right for you. Being asked to come back another day is a sign of a careful clinic, not an awkward one.

Is the consultation free?

Yes. We take a £40 deposit to secure your appointment, which is fully refundable, or redeemable towards your treatment if you go ahead. If you need to rearrange, let us know at least 48 hours beforehand and we will move it.

Why see a dentist for this?

Dr Brekhna is a dentist and facial aesthetics clinician, trained in the anatomy of the face and registered with the General Dental Council. Read more about why it makes sense to have facial aesthetics with a dentist.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know what treatment I want before I book?

No. Most people simply know what bothers them. Working out the best way to address it is your clinician’s job.

Will I look frozen or overdone?

The aim is always that you look rested and well. If you ask for something we think will look overdone, we will say so.

Is there an age limit?

You must be 18 or over. There is no upper age limit, though what is suitable changes over time, which is another reason the assessment matters.

What if I am not happy afterwards?

Come back and tell us. A review is part of how we work.
